A Little about Me
Hello! My name is Mindy Freeland and I am your child's fourth grade teacher. I wanted to take some time to introduce myself.
I am a Fruitport native, and had the opportunity to receive all of my education through Fruitport Community Schools! After graduating from Fruitport High School, I decided to further my education at Muskegon Community College and then Grand Valley State University. In December of 1999, I received my degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Math and Science. I continued my education at Western Michigan University earning a Master's Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Reading Instruction in 2008. Currently, I'm in the process of working on a Technology in Education Certificate from Michigan State University.
My career began at Shettler School many years ago. I started as a student assistant in Kindergarten while attending college and, upon graduation, began guest teaching for the district. I was hired in 2000 to teach fifth grade and then moved down to fourth grade two years later where I remained for 16 years. My how time flies! Several years ago, I begin my new adventure at Beach and hope to continue my wonderful career in Fruitport.
Not only do I teach in Fruitport, I am also an active member in school and community projects. In the past, I have served as the elected Teacher Liason for the building's Parent Teacher Committee, served as a building representative on the District Technology Committee, and volunteer for many additional programs and services provided by the community.
I am single and have no children of my own. My parents and brother live near by, as well as many relatives and close friends. I have a fourteen year old nephew that is an athletic machine, a five year old niece that is a little learning sponge, and a four year old nephew that is keeping everyone on their toes. I enjoy spending as much time as possible with all of them!
When I'm not busy teaching or volunteering, I enjoy spending time with close friends and family. I also enjoy traveling to new destinations, reading the next best seller, and being active in the great outdoors, especially near the Lake Michigan shoreline.
I am so excited that your child is a part of my class. I look forward to all the fun experiences each school year brings, but most importantly, I look forward to helping your child succeed!
